BMA Updates!

Introducing our first ever sponsor and supporter, BMA Cymru Wales.

We’ll be working with the trade union and professional association for doctors and medical students, and their medical students committee, to make people aware of the issues faced by BAME students and supporting them to achieve their career aspirations.

They will be supporting in numerous of ways including a great segment in our upcoming annual conference EQUIP where they will providing some great career and portfolio advice - don't forget to book your tickets!

Throughout the year, we will be posting some updates from them and today's updates is a feature from our newsletter to be released to our members which we thought would work great as a blog too!

Meet Ellen Davies - chair of WMSC

Ellen Davies is a fourth year medical student at Cardiff University and Chair of BMA’s Welsh Medical Students Committee!

Her role is to lead a group of talented and passionate students to work together to improve the medical student experience in Wales. WMSC offers a chance to discuss important issues with like-minded students and BMA staff, and working with the ACMA is a great example of this.

What are you looking forward to about working with ACMA?

At the BMA, we’ve really placed a focus on widening access over the past couple of years, creating resources for those who perhaps didn’t think studying medicine was an option for them and trying to dispel myths.

It’s so important we also support those who are now in medical school, to ensure barriers are broken down. We want to achieve fairness and equality for all students. There was a real overlap of aims between us and the ACMA, so a relationship made sense.

What else is WMSC working on?

We want to see full implementation and positive change off the back of the BMA’s Charter for Medical Schools to Prevent and Address Racial Harassment. We also want to improve accommodation standards for students and make sure they aren’t disadvantaged by the devastating impact of Covid-19.

Don't forget to refer back to our BMA section for future updates - we are excited to share events and initiatives with them and check out their social media too!
